I’m wearing a leather jacket in August. Seems weird, but with the “summer” Yorkshire’s been having at the moment – it’s completely justified. That’s one thing I will never be able to get go of. Leather jackets (faux) are the loves of my life. I have a few, but the collection is certainly going. I always find they’re my go-to when I’m not quite sure what to wear. When it comes to a girls’ night out, a group meal or even popping to the shops, my leather is an essential. At the moment, I only own black jackets, so expanding into the world of colour is the next big step.

Speaking of taking steps, I’m currently trying to alter my wardrobe. As my personality changes or grows, my sense of style does too. I’ve become more mature over the past years and no longer feel the desire to wear booty shorts at any given circumstance. One trend I’m adoring is basically anything with a pattern on it. From pyjama pants to tank tops – I love it all. And there’s my new obsession with pink but right now we’ll focus on patterns. Pretty much 99.99% of my friends make fun of the fact I’m either always in black or always in block colours and it’s totally true. So it got me thinking, if I love patterns and prints so much, what am I doing in this one-coloured outfit?

I spotted this red and white number in TK Maxx over the summer and have loved it ever since. Even though it’s only a sprinkle of pattern in this outfit, buying it was a bit of a risk for me, it’s a print I’ve never worn before (even though I love it) and I wasn’t sure if the new style was going to suit me. Then I decided to wise up and just buy it if I want it – a good choice! The top is 100% cotton so it’s soft, flowy and doesn’t clash with many other fabrics; including leather. It also has two little – what I’m calling drawstrings – by the neckline which are a cute feature I’ve spotted on a few blouses in the summer sales.

By the way, these jet black jeans from the Next sale are literally my greatest investment. So it’s hard to say goodbye to all-black every day 😉

Expanding my wardrobe into what I really want to wear may be a small step for some, but it’s a giant leap for mankind me.

All the best,

Anika xo
