Last week, there was a little meeting going on at work, and I got to meet the lovely founder and designer behind Avenue 20, Natasha Pearce. We chatted for a little while, and she showed me two products from her amazing line of workout leggings – which I’ve been on the hunt for. As mentioned in previous posts, I’ve started running rather than going to the gym, and doing mini workouts at home to help strengthen my body and get back in shape. My go-to for affordable activewear is TK Maxx, but all their items are from different brands, so there’s never one size that is guaranteed to fit, and a lot of the leggings I own fall down. Then came Avenue 20.
The first pair leggings (and my favourite), are the Day to Night Reflective Leggings which are available online for £40. The strips on the leggings are reflective, meaning they’re great for running at night because I’m always visible to cars and in street light. The fabric is simply amazing. There’s no other word to describe it. I previously mentioned to Natasha that a lot of the leggings I wear, including an Adidas pair, feel a lot like paper on my legs, and when I get warm they become itchy. Fortunately, these leggings not only keep me cool, but also stay comfortable no matter how long I’m wearing them. The reflective strips look amazing in flash light (head to my Instagram story to see more) and are extremely flattering, especially on someone who’s plus sized like me. I’m wearing a size medium in the images, and have extra-long 48” legs, but they fit wonderfully!
Since I’ve started running, I can already feel my fitness level increasing, so it’s great that’s I now have leggings I love. When I used to attend the gym, there was nothing worse than being on the treadmill and actually have to stop, just so I could unflatteringly pull up my pants and then continue. These legggins are squat-proof (I’ve tested it myself) and the stretch is great for running long-distance.
The second pair, are the super cute Floral Panel Print Leggings which are available online for £30. The first thing I noticed about these leggings is that they immediately elongate your legs, and look simple but stylish. I wear these leggings whenever I head to a yoga class, as the fabric is extremely soft and breathable. I’ve also started running in these leggings, and inside, there’s a little key pocket which is great for anyone who needs a safe place to store keys, an iPod or even spare change. Floral is one of my all-time favourite prints, so I’m ridiculously obsessed with the print and feel. Both leggings have the brand name printed across the top on the back, and fit high-waisted. They pair really well with crop tops and sports bras. I’m definitely thinking about investing in another pair because they feel so comfy.
It’s really common for me to get quite irritated with leggings, because they gather behind the knees and it’s almost painful with all that fabric there. Avenue 20 leggings fit like a second skin, so there’s no gathering and they move with you, rather than against you. I’m so happy to have met Natasha, because it meant I discovered Avenue 20!
My workout routine, at the moment, is pretty basic; consisting of short runs, Blogilates and yoga – so if you have any recommendations, definitely let me know in the comments!
