In my opinion, florals are one of the best, if not the best, pattern to be incorporated into a fabric. I spend half my week surrounded by hundreds of rolls of materials, and often shop for new fabrics, yet my mind is always and immediately drawn to flowers. Whether it’s an enormous print or a tiny one, they have my heart. I think one of my favourite traits of a floral print is the potential it has. Think about it, they can be dressed up, or dressed down. They can be a statement piece, or there as a compliment. They can be worn for pretty much any occasion, and come in any form. I have floral dresses, skirts, bags, shoes, tights, pants, tops and even hair clips. It’s safe to say I’m a little obsessed.
Now let’s get into those eight reasons…
01 They’re pretty… obv
02 They look amazing during any season
03 They come in all shapes and sizes, the varieties are endless
With today’s look, I’m wearing this cute floral mini dress from Next, which I bought last summer and still wear this season. Mondays for me mean business, so I knew this look had to be chic but professional. Being totally honest, one of my favourite things about having meetings at work is being able to storm in and feel fabulous. This dress has a really simple structure, is basically a skater shape but very subtle. The fabric is thick but flowy, meaning I can twirl in the autumn breeze and still feel warm. When the colder months hit, I have a tendency to dress in darker colours, so the underlying navy colour is perfect for my style. Plus, it means all-black accessories and boots don’t look over the top.
04 The flatter any shape, and hide anything wanted to be hidden
05 They leave room for plenty of compliments 😉
Now I’m about to get real. I’ve recently started the pill, to help with endometriosis and migraines. Whatever’s in the pill works wonders, it’s really helped – but it means weight gain, something I really don’t want. I’ve struggled with my weight for a while, so this isn’t ideal but I guess it just means I need to work harder to keep it off! Anyway, a busy pattern, like this floral look, keeps those rolls hidden. I find the pattern comfortable to wear and the comfort gives me that extra boost of confidence – always a bonus!
06 Florals bring new colours into your wardrobe
07 They can be mixed and matched
08 They’re an easy statement piece
Also featured in today’s look are my black sock boots (which I can’t stop wearing) and this tiny leather shoulder bag, also from Next. I’ve been trying for months to slowly work all-black looks out of my wardrobe, so having a great floral print, although miniature, brings in some extra colour and becomes to the immediate bold statement piece I need. But I can never say no to sock boots. They make me so very happy. I got this specific pair from ASOS, but have found plenty more online to obsess over!
Have a great week!
