Closet discoveries are the best thing about reorganising. I would say I reorganise my wardrobe about once a month, usually to keep my room tidy, but also to give away clothing that no longer fits, I don’t need, or I don’t like. Then comes the moment, when I’m tidying/dancing away and I stumble upon a garment I haven’t seen in weeks, possibly years. That moment of joy is a gem I’ll always treasure. It’s like getting free stuff with minimal effort. Last week, while going through my clothing rail, I came across this jacket, which I completely forgot existed and couldn’t believe stayed hidden for so long.
This jacket, that actually belongs to my grandmother, was given to me well over a year ago, when I stopped by her home during the winter, desperate to warm up. She gave me this jacket before I left the house, then waved me away (you know like grandma’s do). The hooded coat is definitely a new favourite, I remember being shocked that there was such a stylish piece sitting in my grandma’s wardrobe that she didn’t even want. I’m not sure if the jacket is supposed to be cropped, but on me, it gives off this look for sure. That’s one of my favourite features, as it means it works well with high-waisted jeans, skirts and dresses. My Grandma is pretty much five-foot-zero, so I’m sure it looks great on her too.
The jacket is lined with a fleece-like fabric, that’s actually a lot warmer than it looks. I was basically on fire while trying to pose for these photos. The liner is inside the body of the jacket, the sleeves, the hood and even features as a cuff-like element on the end of each arm. Now that it’s finally and officially autumn, this jacket is a perfect – it can be worn in the chilly mornings and warmer afternoons. We’re at that time of year where it’s a freezing winter in the mornings and a deadly summer by 2 pm so I quite like having this light coat to wear with each outfit.
I’m actually surprised it fits as it’s a smaller size than I’m used to, but it’s pretty roomy! Keeping it in true simple style, today’s outfit is completed by my favourite skinny jeans (from Next), an unbelievable cosy crop top (from Topshop) and my three-year-old suede Chelsea boots (also from Next). I’m also wearing the backpack features in this post right here.
I’m so glad to be wearing a little piece of something that belongs to my Grandma, as she’s currently suffering from dementia, and her memory is quite damaged. We aren’t able to talk as much as before, as her short-term memory loss is very poor. However, she does always continue to let me wear her little coat!
