I always say that I live a pretty simple life. I like to keep my mind clear and my anxiety low, and that gives me time to appreciate the things that I often forget about. The basics in life, and in fashion.
In life, simple things like waking up every morning, witnessing a sunset, being able to laugh with my family are all things that I’m trying to appreciate much more. They’re often things we take for granted, and also a way some of the best memories are made.
When shooting the photos for this post, we were just hitting that golden moment, when the sun is at its best and brightest, and the sky illuminates in pinks, purples and oranges. It’s something I see all the time but while on the moors it was something extra special to feel grateful for.
I’m way happier when crying with laughter, watching old Vine compilations on YouTube with my sister in 2am, in comparison to working on my computer all night, trying to earn some extra coins. Just valuing the little things while I have them makes my life content.
One of the ways I’m trying to be more appreciative is being present. As a blogger, I have this indescribable need to capture everything and my brain is always buzzing with ideas. However, when it’s time to spend some valuable hours with my favourite people, I actively try to switch off. Switch off from work, and especially from social media.
There’s nothing worse than going out for a meal with friends, and someone is sat on their phone, ignoring the table and double-tapping photos all evening. I don’t want to be that someone, because it’s time I’ll never get back. There are so many little things that make me happy, things others would often consider basic – but things I’m so incredibly grateful for.

Now when it comes to fashion, I’m all about the basics. In today’s outfit, I’m rocking all the things I would consider wardrobe basics: a hoodie, a faux leather jacket, blue jeans, a cross-body and of course… Converse.
Converse are regularly featured on my blog and they’re one of my favourite style of shoe. The Converse I’m wearing in this post we’re kindly gifted by Footway, and when they gave the opportunity to pick a pair of shoes for a blog post, I went straight to their range of Converse. The one pair I have never owned are the classic black and white Chucks.
I love my high-tops, but they’re just not the same as the classics! The style of these shoes is one of easiest to dress with and are SO COMFORTABLE. Can we just have a “woohoo” for Converse?
The hoodie I’m wearing is actually an oversized one I have this weird emotional attachment to. I can’t be the only person with clothes like this right? That’s another basic I’m appreciating, items I just can’t let go of. This hoodie is from the menswear range at F&F by Tesco (easily one of the best supermarket clothing lines) and it’s been everywhere with me. Sleeping away from home? Wear this hoodie. Running errands? Wear this hoodie. Chilly in the house? Wear this hoodie. Cover up for the gym? Wear this hoodie. Looking for an extra layer under this leather jacket? Wear this hoodie. I’m all for an all-season, all-occasion hoodie and this one is exactly that.
Blue jeans, cross-body bags and a leather jacket are closet basics that are so under-appreciated it hurts a little bit. They are perfect for everything! And they work with every shoe! I’ve had this Topshop leather jacket since I was 14, and it was one of those ‘following-the-crowd’ purchases. You know, when you buy something because everyone else at school is wearing it? It’s definitely the buy I don’t regret – it’s lasted FOREVER.
So there are basics in my life and in my wardrobe that I’m learning to appreciate more. In life, those basics are anything from laughter fits and road trips to photo booths and… something that rhymes with booths. In my wardrobe, they’re the pieces that have been there all along, like my ‘everything’ hoodie, and items I’ve longed for since my teens, like this pair of Converse.
