Let’s try and pretend the weather is on our side and we’re not sitting indoors desperately waiting for the tiniest bit of sun. I’ve decided to embrace the best spring can offer, and it’s that’s rain and the constant threat of “The Beast from the East” then I’m going to make the most of what I have.

The great thing about fashion is that things go in and out of style, but we all also have our own personal style, and have items we fall in and out of love with. This coat is one of those items, but because it’s lasted so long, and I’ve owned it for what feels like forever, I’m dubbing it The Forever Coat.

I feel like it’s tradition in a country like the UK to own a lot of coats. You never know what the weather will bring, and you kind of need a coat for every occasion, then sometimes you need different coats for different outfits and situations. For example, I have the loveliest camel-or-desert-style wrap coat (made for me – check it out here) and I absolutely adore it… but it doesn’t go with everything. That coat is pretty warm, so I need an equally warm coat that goes with a different outfit. And the crisis continues.

When it comes to The Forever Coat, it not only seems to go with a lot of clothing I own, its also perfectly warm for the rubbish weather we have right now. The colour is incredibly versatile, which is one of the reasons I think it’s lasted in my loves for so long. There are countless items I own, but eventually get rid of because they’re too “statement” and I’ve worn them a million times, or they’re just not my taste anymore. The tailored jacket originally belonged to my mum, and like a lot of things I now adore, she passed it on to me because I kept stealing it. It’s kind of funny how as a child, I would scoff at wearing my mum’s clothes because I never thought she had much style, nowadays, I head to her wardrobe the minute I can’t find something to wear.

I guess we could say I’m playing dress up.

The great thing about this outfit is that it’s inexpensive too. In fact, the item with the biggest price tag is my ankle boots (from Next) but rest is a combination of re-styling old clothing and having a good eye when it comes to sale shopping. I’ve worn this coat and bag, sunglasses and even tights a few times on my blog, but that’s the great thing about fashion and personal style – there aren’t really any rules.
