My entire life, I’ve heard, “you should wear yellow”… “it will go with your skin”…”yellow was made for black people” and I used to just kind of ignore it, not because I disagreed, but because it seems like a colour that was too bold for me.
I’m quite the shy type, so wearing an attention-drawing colour seemed like my worst nightmare. Then I just decided to try it because… why not? Fashion, right?
I picked up my first yellow dress from Primark back in 2016 and have loved the colour since. I was scared to wear the dress at first, but once summer rolls around you just wanna dress as bright as possible. Last week I “accidentally” stumbled into Primark again and discovered this little gem in their summer sale.
The print was the first thing that drew me to the dress, as it suits my style perfectly! I don’t wear enough prints, so this dress was basically asking to be bought. I’m so happy I listened to myself.
I wasn’t joking when I said I wanted to wear midis most the summer, it’s real and it’s happening. I need to head back to Primark and pick up a colour more of these cotton midis, they fit so well (I can’t stand clingy clothing) and are surprising comfortable. For an item that’s £13, my expectations weren’t high but I really like this dress. The only downside is that it creases so easily but it has to have at least one flaw.
And in today’s look I have a new accessory featured on the blog. I don’t have much of a jewellery collection (so far it consists of a necklace and a watch) so I was excited when I got the opportunity to add a bracelet to the mix. oNecklace were kind enough to send me a bracelet, and I opted for the gold Roman Numeral Bracelet which is a bangle that can be customised.
I chose to have a meaningful date that’s close to my heart engraved on the bracelet, and it was the idea of Roman numbers that I thought was quite cool. It’s one of the more discreet number systems as it takes a while for people to convert the date in their mind (usually) and it’s a certain time that’s special to me. Like a secret code!
When choosing my bracelet, I had the choice between sterling silver, rose gold, or gold plating (trust me, it took every fibre in my being not to pick rose gold); and the 24k gold plating won me over.
oNecklace is one of those brands that will spring to mind when it comes to giving gifts. I’d love to do an updated post on appreciation or thank you gifts and feature more amazing companies like this, customised gifts are the way forward!
My day job means I’m on the go 90% of the time, and so far this dress has managed to keep up with me. Between business lunches, meetings and the ins and outs of running a charity, this midi is perfect. It’s cool for the summer heat, still professional and yellow!
Have you ever worn customised jewellery?
