In my mind, midi dresses will always be a win. Like anything denim or floral, they’re one of those statement pieces that is always a handy item to own. They never really go out of fashion.
Midi dresses have been in my wardrobe for as long as I can remember, and it’s only now that I’m starting to appreciate them as something other than formal or occasion-wear. There’s something about clothing that will last forever that has a special place in my heart. Those items that can be kept for years and never go out of style, or never feel out of touch. This midi dress is one of those items, and I think this summer may be a summer of midi dresses for me.
When I was younger, I used to despise the idea of wearing anything below my knees. And during my teenage years, my skirt was as short as possible, because it felt a lot more stylish and youthful (for some reason). Now, I’m all about the midi length, and I find it to be quite flattering and really easy to dress around.
Today I’m pairing this basic bodycon midi (that I made all by myself YAY) with an old denim jacket that I’ve owned since school. Two items and BOOM the outfit is done – it’s that easy! The midi dress paired with a nice jacket or even a cropped jumper has recently become my go-to because it’s such a simple outfit and so comfortable to wear. The skater skirt is usually my dress of choice, but switching it up with a bodycon midi is just as good. I see this style quite a lot on Pinterest and think it could be a new favourite.
When it comes to keeping it casual, Converse are the obvious choice. They’re feature quite a lot on my blog because they’re pretty much always my shoe of choice. I think they bring an authentic and original vibe to each outfit, and the contrasting colours add a little something to the look. For a sprinkle of colour, I’m carrying this tiny bucket bag I picked up a couple of years ago, and just about fits three items in. It was featured in this post from 2017 and I still throw it on when I’m on the go.
As a dress that’s below the knee is usually considered a little more formal, midi dresses make the easiest and most stylish day-to-night item to own. Imagine this exact dress, but with a smart and lightweight trench coat with black heeled pumps. Instantly formal!
I know I’m way too excited about a dress, but I can’t believe I’m so late to the party.
It took about an hour to make this dress, and I can’t wait to make many more.
