In today’s modern world, it’s easy to rush around and miss the precious gems life can offer.
Somehow, overtime we have managed to convince ourselves that if we aren’t busy, we aren’t productive. And if we aren’t productive we aren’t successful. The whole idea of balance just seems to be a little off, for me at the moment, and it’s time I take the time to slow down and appreciate the fact that I’m alive and breathing.
Nowadays, it’s either, live a super busy life and try to do everything as quickly as possible, or survive on the “treat yo self” mentality and then feel guilty for relaxing. There shouldn’t be any remorse for taking time to chill as long as there’s that element of balance there.
I was scrolling through Pinterest while procrastinating and came across the phrase, “take time to smell the roses” and it was like a moment of enlightenment. Sometimes it’s something as simple as a Pinterest graphic to push you into motion.
Then I thought to myself, over the last few months, I’ve been working extremely hard, putting a lot of pressure on myself, and worrying about anything and everything for what? I’m not more successful, I’m not any happier, so there wasn’t much point in treating myself like that.
I couldn’t even remember the last time I saw my best friend face-to-face because I’ve been so focused on earning that coin. So now, it’s time to keep up the work ethic, but take the time to smell the roses.
Appreciate the little things, count the blessings I have (rather than the burdens), value quality time with the people I love and be present. The amount of times I’ve gone out somewhere and spent the whole time worrying about a blog post that I haven’t written is ridiculous.
I’m saying goodbye to the idea of a fast track life and taking the slow lane, savouring moments that may never come around again, trying to remain mindful and focusing on one thing at a time. That way, I can climb my way to my goal in life, but enjoy the journey there. Otherwise, there’s not really much to look back on.
Baby steps will work too: passing on a smile, throw a compliment, spend time thinking on what inspires and motivates me, seeking the simplicity, focusing on the invaluableness of life and just slowing down a bit.
While I was writing this blog post, I received a gorgeous delivery from the team at Infini London. The company is famous for their real, handpicked roses that will last a whole year… yep, you read that right. They’re picked at their most perfect state and specially treated with an eco-friendly solution that means they’ll maintain their beauty for a whole year.
This beautiful box smells absolutely amazing, so I’m creating a little challenge for myself. Now that I have a luxury box of roses that will last a year, I’m going to use them as a reminder to smell the roses, every single day, for an entire year. By this point, it’ll be a habit and I won’t be worrying about any thorns.
I now have a new saying to add a little positivity into my life, and I hope you’ll join me!
