It’s a new season! A new season means new things to obsess over, and the list is forever growing. I’m a spring baby, and it’s easily a favourite season of mine. I feel like it’s a little underappreciated, but I love this time of year. This side of the globe starts to look a little more alive, and we get some of the greenery back we lost in the winter. There are flowers absolutely everywhere and more people spend time outside in the sunshine. Spring also means spring lambs and plenty of other baby animals waking up from hibernation. I love watching them kick and run about in fresh fields and enjoying their freedom. There are a couple of items in particular that I have been loving a little more this season, and some that have become more useful than ever.
First on the list is It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream and Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation. I actually won the It Cosmetics Cream in a giveaway held by Patricia Bright, and my photo of her Glamour cover was chosen! In the makeup box of goodies, was this CC cream that I have wanted to try for years. It has received glowing reviews across YouTube, and I was on the lookout for something high-quality, light and full coverage. It’s easily one of my favourite products, I don’t want to use it all up! It’s not the cheapest product out there, so I tend to save it, but still a favourite!
The Maybelline foundation is a product I have been using for a couple of years now and it’s one I can rely on. When this was released, I was impressed by the fact the range was more than six shades of beige, and there were some darker shades on there. I’d still say they could use some deeper colours, but the range is incredible affordable. This is my everyday foundation and has the perfect amount of coverage for a no-makeup look. Even though it’s definitely a full coverage product, I can use a tiny amount and still feel my skin underneath. It doesn’t have the lasting powers of the CC cream, but powder fixes that!
Next on the list are candles, for the chilly spring nights. My favourite candle at the moment is actually an autumn-scented one from The White Company. My only explanation is that it smells that good I feel the need to burn it year-round. It has notes of pear, quince and apricot blended with musk and amber, and makes me feel so content.
I also started using Tea Tree Oil during the winter because I read it’s one of the essential oils that can improve the balance of skin. It’s normally used to treat wounds or heal cuts but I found it to be really ideal for fixing dry skin and blemishes on my skin. I chose the oil from Tisserand, as it’s ethically harvested and suitable for vegans.
The Next Stardust Glow highlight has been in my makeup bag for months. They don’t sell it anymore, but they do have Cheek Chubby which is basically the same thing. It’s a one-stroke highlight with a really subtle effect that I find adds a little glow and colour to my face. I’m not a big highlighter person, so this is the perfect product for me. The tiniest amount blends really well and creates instant cheekbones.
One thing I get really lazy with, is my hair. I absolutely hate doing my hair, and I’m not the best at looking after it. I take care of it because I have to, and wish I was a little more passionate about black hair. Anyway, ORS has been one of the go-to brands in my family for as long as I can remember. I can identify the smell their oil sheen from miles away. I started using their Edge Control and Hair Gel Stick last year when the autumn winds almost blew my wig off.
Out of the two, the original edge gel is my favourite, but the stick is really useful for being on the go. They’re products I would happily use for the rest of my life, and have a non-sticky feel that is ideal for moisturising your hair rather than causing it to solidify.
Finally, a couple of things I’m bringing into spring from the winter season are my woolly and knitted goodies. Mainly, my favourite chunky knit jumper from Topshop (similar) and Cecilia De Rafael Space Fashion tights from UK Tights. These items are two I like to combine with spring pieces like flowy dresses and simple skirts to create something new. I love a cosy jumper on top of anything, but I think it looks really nice on top of a floral dress. Similarly, I have a lot of plain skirts that don’t have much colour, and the space tights add a little something to a basic outfit.
Fashion tights are something that I have really grown to appreciate, and I have featured them on the blog before. They’re a different element to play around with when it comes on an outfit – plus they keep me warm. Always a bonus!
I’m sure my list of must-haves and essentials will keep growing, but so far I’m pretty happy with the list. What are some of your favourite items this season?
