I’m just going to be honest here. I’m a terrible eater. I snack, I overeat, and I have no self-control around sugar. As much as I like to eat healthily, the main problem is that I’m lazy and a terrible cook so choosing something unhealthy and quick is usually the easier option. I like simple meals like stir fry and veggie bakes, but I like the idea of switching up my diet to make my health journey a little more fun.
I got the opportunity to try a week with Dietbon, the diet meals delivery service. I have always been a little curious when it comes to meal plans because I think the idea is quite handy, especially for humans like me who aren’t a natural in the kitchen. Plus, I thought it would be really interesting to see what kind of food is available and review their dishes.
My expectations for Dietbon were high, after doing a little research on their company. Their plan is based on home-delivered meals and telephone consultations with a dietician. All your daily meals are delivered to your home for 6 days out of 7. The 7th day is a free day which gives you a little extra freedom when it comes to eating out and cheat meals. The idea is to help you relearn how to follow a balanced diet, but what really impressed me is that the meals are gourmet and calorie controlled – so you don’t really feel like you’re on a strict diet, just a healthier way of eating.
I’m not a fan of diets that cause you to drop a ridiculous amount of weight each month in an unhealthy way. The concept just doesn’t appeal to me and I feel like as soon as you have a cheat meal you pile it all back on. Dietbon meals contain 100% natural ingredients, no additives, preservatives or artificial colourings. There are also no GM ingredients, artificial sweeteners or palm oil. So, between the 50 meals on offer, you know they’re going to taste good.
The temptation to cook a calorie-filled meal (or throw some chips in the oven) isn’t as strong when I’m eating with Dietbon. Because I know I already have tasty meals pre-prepped and ready to cook, I actually look forward to getting into the kitchen. Two minutes in the microwave and they’re ready to go.
There are two things that really stood out to me with Dietbon: the choice in meals and the consultation by telephone with a registered dietician. I’m one of the pickiest eaters I know, and I waxed off every meal that arrived at my door. My chat with Charlotte was lovely, I told her about some of my concerns when it comes to my diet and my goals for the future. She’s a degree-educated professional who gave me some great advice on my earing habits.
My two favourite meals were the Sautéed Pork, Potatoes and Carrots with Bacon (sauté de porc) and Stuffed Tomato Gratin (graton façon tomates farcies). The meals have a really fresh taste, not like plastic microwave meals but like readily-prepared dishes. I actually feel like I’m eating healthy for a change, and feeling full with the right portions, rather than snacking non-stop through the day.
However, I do love my snacks and the mini lemon cakes are too good to be true. Along with the apple compote deserts, I was so excited when it was time to have one of these. The cakes are light, fluffy and magical. They’re so good my mum sneakily ate a couple and I’m tempted to order another few boxes to eat when I’m on the go.
I know what you’re thinking: how much is it? It’s £44 a week. This is about £7 per day for 4 meals which is cheaper than the ingredients to make them. Plus, you get delivery (we love free delivery) and consultations thrown in. I also have something cool for my blog readers, click here to receive a special offer for your first order. It’s a free 28-day supply of teatox drinks in the morning and evening when you purchase a monthly package!
If I were to rate the range of meals from Dietbon like I rate my books, I’d be happy to give them five stars. Not only was a delicious week of meals, but it also encouraged me to experiment more when it comes to what I eat. I think one of the reasons I struggle with a clean diet is because it gets a bit repetitive. I’m not a strong cook so I’m never really trying anything new. My week with Dietbon makes me want to mix it up during the weekly food shop, and also follow their weight loss plan.
Since joining a gym and trying a week of Dietbon meals, I managed to lose a healthy 2lbs in one week. I have been looking into the idea of portion control as well as cutting down on the calories. Dietbon helped me to do that – I just need more of those cakes!
