Isn’t orange such a spring/summer colour? As soon as I wear it I just feel like I’m ready to be welcomed with the warm rays May has to offer. Sadly, it’s not warm enough to wander through the woods with no sleeves so I have to wear my denim jacket to keep warm but it’s OK, it’s still technically spring and summer is on its way.
I actually don’t wear bright colours often. I don’t even wear polka dots often. Fun fact: I’ve never owned a polka dot dress. I adore summer dresses. I’m obsessed with my growing collection summer dresses, so one of my goals for this year is to experiment a bit more when it comes to colour. I think it stems from being shy and not wanting to stand out. I know I’m a blogger but I don’t like a bunch of attention on me- it’s scary! But, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone is what makes life so memorable. Baby steps first, though.
I went with a polka dot because I think it’s a playful print and not too chaotic. There are some crazy bold prints that I know I wouldn’t feel confident wearing, but I’m definitely feeling this pretty pattern.
This polka dot tea dress is from Simply Be, and possibly one of my favourite additions to my spring wardrobe. Firstly, I was drawn to the model in the photo because she’s a similar size to me – I could instantly see myself wearing that. Can we have a round of applause for stores that use real models with real body sizes, real skin tones and real marks and scars? Thank you.
I’d throw myself in the mid-size range, and when it comes to dresses, I like something light, flowy and a good length. I hate my knees like everyone else but it’s going to get warm at some point so they’ll eventually have to make an appearance. Today’s dress is a v-neck tea dress so it’s super easy to dress up or down and comfortable enough to wear all day.
I like dresses with a little versatility in them. In the past, I used to buy a new dress or outfit for every occasion, but I’ve learned the more you have doesn’t always mean the happier you’ll be, or the easier it is to dress. There are some items in my wardrobe that I’ve owned since I was 14 (and they still fit yay), that I still wear today. They’ve stuck with me through the good and the bad, while being paired with every other piece of clothing I own.
It’s like having your own Pick ‘n’ Mix store in your bedroom. All it takes is some experimenting and you can create brand new outfits from old items you already own. This dress is one of those pieces that’ll be thought of every time the sun shines. This time next year, I could be re-styling this exact outfit.
The colour is absolutely gorgeous. It makes me happy, and hopefully brings a smile to other people too. It contrasts perfect with a denim jacket to make an easy spring/summer uniform.
Are you a polka dot fan?
