Summer is here and it’s light out! Summer is a good season because the sun stays out past 4pm. I think that’s the best bit. The heat is nice, and everything looks greener, but being able to sit outside when you actually get home from work is where the real bonus is.

I know, I know. I’m wearing florals in spring and summer and it’s ground-breaking. But here’s the thing, florals are amazing all-year round and should be appreciated in as many outfits as possible. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

I have a special love for anything nature-inspired, and a special love for dresses. So you can imagine my face when I spotted this black floral wrap dress from Simply Be. They’re a brand that I have a love of time for, not only because they make clothing with curvier girls in mind, but because they use realistic models on their site too. It’s so much easier to picture yourself in mid or plus size clothing when the model is actually a mid or plus size model.

I think a floral mini is a wardrobe essential at this point. I don’t own a huge amount of minis, just because I’m partial to the midi length, but I love the idea of a really cute mini dress to keep for the perfect occasion. What is today’s occasion you ask? I’m taking a relaxing stroll through the woods after a pub dinner – the best way to spend a day after work. Also the best way to burn off all the calories I just ate.

There is sometimes this preconceived idea that anything summery or floral must be a violent shade of neon with a huge pattern that stops traffic and a rainbow of accessories. But I quite like the idea of a simple floral pattern on a dark background. Taking it back to basics, capturing the true essential of floral: flowers.

I think the pattern on this piece is what makes it so cute. It isn’t filled with an unnatural amount of colour, the pattern does the talking as it were. Paired with a duster I’ve owned for over six years and my trusty Converse, we have an outfit!

My style has simplified over the years. One of the reasons I love dresses is because you can use them to shape your overall outfit. I put my own twist on this with my favourite Converse and a long jacket, but switch those for a cropped leather jacket and heels, and you’re ready for a night out.

It might be an expected trend, but spring isn’t spring without florals. They’re always a win!
