They say black don’t crack, but trust me – the black will crack if you aren’t looking after it. I’ve always had a curiosity when it comes to anti-ageing products. I’m 23, but everyone likes to look young right?

Skincare is something I took a huge interest in about three years ago. I’d just come through the worst stages of acne, and although my skin was on the mend, there are still room for improvements and areas to be repaired. The teenage years did their damage, and I kind of want to reverse them. If I could talk to my teenage self all those years ago, I’d scream at myself for not washing my face every day, for falling asleep with make-up on, and for not treating my skin the way it deserves to be treated.

Think about it this way, your skin is your biggest organ. It’s the one body part you wear on the outside. It should be well looked after, ready for battle, and treated every now and then. This past week, I got the opportunity to treat my skin to something completely new. Enter, Skin Chemists.

When taking a look at the Caviar Anti-Ageing range, my first thought was: surely I’m too young to be thinking about anti-ageing products for skin? I’m still in the bloom of youth! While it’s true your skin is usually at its best and strongest in your younger years, it’s never too early to look after it and look ahead.

Youthful skin has that elasticity that keeps it fresh and lets you get away with minimal makeup or effort. But in reality, we stop making elastin around the time we hit puberty, and part of adulating is looking after yourself. I love the idea of going makeup free. I really do. But I’m not totally comfortable in my skin. It’s not at the best it can be, and I know there are products out there that can help improve it. Here’s what I thought of the Caviar range.

Anti-Ageing Caviar Facial Serum

Out of all the products, this is my favourite. I think this is the one I would repurchase, just because it’s so lovely to use, and my skin absolutely loved it. You only need a teeny tiny amount every day, to rub into your skin every morning and night. This step fit into my routine straight after cleaning my face and the refreshing feeling is wonderful.

The serum has aloe vera in, which is the perfect moisturiser. My skin absolutely loves it. I’ve used aloe vera gels in the past to clear up scars and imperfections, and this serum helped with that too. My skin is desert dry after being washed, so the serum was a really nice addition to help hydrate and refresh. I cannot tell you how much of an aloe vera fan I am, if you’re having any problems with your skin, no matter what type it is, aloe vera will help. It’s amazing for scaring too.

I’m new to the world of serums, but this is one I’d rebuy for sure. My skin was especially fond of this one and reacted really well. It can be temperamental and sensitive from time to time, so I’m always cautious. The smoothing effects it has are something I want forever!

Anti-Ageing Caviar Day Moisturiser

To follow the serum, I used the day moisturiser, but only in the morning. When it comes to texture, I’m really picky with creams and moisturisers. I absolutely hate feeling like I’ve slathered grease all over my face or skin, which is why I struggled to jump on the coconut oil trend of 2017. I want my skin to feel soft and refreshed, so I can get on with my day.

The moisturiser was a really handy product when it came to my morning skincare routine. It’s a light and airy cream with very little scent. It created the perfect barrier between my skin and makeup as I don’t use primer every day.

Rather than just using regular body creams on my face, I stuck to this and there was a noticeable different. My skin felt tighter, comfortably refreshed and light. My favourite thing about the cream is how matte it is! During the day, I get a little oily, and although I wear power, oil seems to magically appear on my face. I noticed a reduced amount of greasiness when using this products in the morning.

This is one I was really excited to try because my eyes have dark circles and it’s one of my biggest insecurities. When it comes to going without makeup, my eyes are the one thing I wish I could conceal. This particular serum promises to nourish skin but also balance an uneven skin tone, which is something I struggle with.

Scars are something I’m learning to live with, even though they’re slowly fading. But I’ve struggled to find a product that actually has an effect on my under eyes, the colour needs correcting. With the eye serum, I applied it morning and night onto dry skin and used a very small amount. The skin there can be quite sensitive and sting with certain products, so I was nervous, but ended up really enjoying using it.

The thing that impressed me the most is the feel of my skin. It transformed. I really think caviar may have some sort of magical qualities, because the dark circles faded. Not only did it make concealing so much easier, but I was more comfortable leaving the house without makeup on. The eyes always give away age, so I’d really recommend this product to anyone looking to tighten the skin around them or balance out the tone. It’s so gentle!

The Anti-Ageing Caviar range by Skin Chemists is suitable for all skin types, which made it perfect for combo skin like mine. Some days I’m oiler than a chip pan, other days my skin is desperate for moisture. It’s quite the roller-coaster, so I found this range catered to my skin’s changes. After just a week, I noticed a brightness in my skin that made me look healthier. Like I’ve been eating fruit and veg and working out every day. It never felt like my skin was being pulled back into youth, just refreshed.

I had this preconceived idea of anti-ageing products to feel tight and painful when applied to your skin. I thought they’d have a quick effect like a lip plumping gloss, but I found that this range was pain-free. It took around a week to see a noticeable difference in my skin.

Overall, I was impressed with this range. I always thought you start thinking about anti-ageing when you actually see signs of age, but I love the effect this has had on my 23-year-old skin. I like to think it’s never too soon to protect your skin and treat yourself. This range is definitely an investment, but an effective one. Hopefully I’ll be looking 20-odd for years to come!
