A Chocolatey Cheat Day with Thorntons | Thorntons Pearls Review by Anika May | anikamay.co.uk

I’m in desperate need for some me-time. The last few weeks have been jammed-packed with travelling around the UK, spending time with friends and going out every weekend. I’m exhausted. As much as I love being around people and experiencing new things, I’m drained, and I want to spend some time at home!

As an introverted soul, INFJ to be exact, I need some me-time. I need to get away every so often and just disappear. I like to be with myself no one else, even if it’s just for a few hours. As today’s my cheat day, I’m dedicating this free weekend to a cheat-day-slash-me-day, and a chocolatey one at that.

To be honest, it’s not difficult for me to fall into a cheat day, but when it’s a well-deserved one, it feels even better. I’ve been to the gym three times over the week as part of my routine, eaten nothing but my pre-prepped meals and actually put effort into my appearance – I like that merits a reward.

This weekend I have no plans. I’m thrilled. I’m going to read, drink tea, and tuck into the new boxes of Thorntons Pearls I have sitting in the cupboard. I mean both boxes, over the whole weekend, nothing else. The delightfully luxurious chocolates are very original, Thorntons even recreated some of the most iconic images feature pearls, but with a little twist, all the jewellery is made out of chocolate. It’s an impressive concept, you can take a closer look here. My personal favourite is our queen, Rihanna.

Fun fact: 781 individual, hand-crafted chocolate pearls were used for the photos which took 135 hours to make. As a fellow creative, I’m kind of obsessed with this project idea. I think of pearls as a classic luxury item. You can imagine Marilyn Monroe treating herself to pears in the 50s, and I’m basically doing the same today, just the chocolate edition.

I know there are some serious chocolate lovers out there, so let me give you the deets on the two flavours available. The Salted Caramel Pearls and rich and gooey, so if you have a sweet tooth, they’ll be your favourite for sure. The caramel centre is surprisingly delicious and there’s a nice hint of sea salt to balance it out. The Nutty Crunch Pearls, which are my personal favourite, are made with roasted hazelnuts and enriched with crispy wafer pieces. I devoured this box in about an hour.

During my weekend dedicated to myself, I also plan on drinking endless amounts of [Yorkshire] tea and writing as much as possible. Blog posts, ideas, thoughts, book pages – anything. Writing is like therapy for me, the best form of self-care when I need to recharge.

Cheat days are all about not caring. You eat what you want, wear what you want and do what you want. It’s the ultimate way of relaxing for me, just feeling free of routine and schedule, and using the time to catch up with yourself and feel refreshed. I find it really easy to get stressed, so what better way to unwind than with treats from the sweet shop that’s been making chocolate for 100 years.

It’s also a new month, which means I have a whole new set of books to read, including some new releases I’ve had my eye on since the beginning of the year. My latest read is The Bookshop on the Shore by Jenny Colgan. It’s one of the super easy, relaxing reads that I’m looking forward to enjoying in the sunshine. The reviews are amazing, and I’m in the mood for some chick lit.

Let the weekend begin!
